DIY // Wordless Book Bracelets
Hey y’all! Are you familiar
with the wordless book? It’s a tool to
use to present the gospel, particularly to young children. It has five pages, each with a different
color, and each color represents a different aspect of salvation. Last year I was asked to make a bunch of
wordless book bracelets for a VBS, and recently I was asked to make more for a
children’s ministry. They are extremely
simple and easy to make, so today I would like to show you how!
You will need:
--Plastic beads in black, red, white, gold/yellow, and green.
--Cording (see picture below. It is similar cording to the type I used for the photographed bracelet for this post).
--Scissors.
This type of cording would work |
First, cut off a
strand of your cording. This strand
should be pretty long. The strand I am
holding in the below photo can wrap around my wrist more than twice, I believe.
Now, begin stringing
your beads on. Remember! The color sequence is black, red, white, gold,
and green. It would make sense to put
green before gold, but the way we taught these specific kids is that the gold
color comes first (we taught them with a song).
Feel free to do it whichever way you like.
After stringing the
beads on in the middle of the cord, tie a knot on either end to keep the beads
in place.
Tie a knot on one end
of the cord.
Now, with your other
end, tie a knot around the cord on the
opposite side of the beads. This knot
should be tight enough to not come undone easily, but loose enough to slide up
and down the cord. This is how you will
tighten the bracelet to fit your wrist.
Try your bracelet on,
and slide the knot to tighten it. You
can wrap the excess cord under the bracelet, like shown below.
This bracelet is a great gift for kids! The goal is for them to be able to share the
gospel with their peers through explaining what the beads stand for.
Here is a simple
summary of the meaning of the colors:
Black
– each of us have a sin nature. It is impossible
for any human to be perfect. We all do
bad things and have fallen away from God.
Red
– A long time ago, God sent His only Son,
Jesus, to earth to become a man to save sinners. Jesus was both man and God. Jesus lived a perfect life and then suffered a terrible death, shedding His blood, to save us
from our sin. We need to believe on Him
in order to be saved from our sin!
White – when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, He forgives us and washes our sins away!
Gold - because we
have accepted Jesus as our Savior, when we die, we will go to heaven to live with Jesus Christ
forever!
Green – if we are
truly saved, we will grow to become
more like Christ. We will want to please
Him and do things for Him!
There are many other
ways to present the wordless book as well!
I’ve painted my fingernails with each of the colors before. And then of course, there’s always the basic book,
which would be easy to make with colored cardstock paper and staples.
Also, I have a
REMINDER about the blog-versary Q+A! The
deadline for that is Saturday, so if you have not submitted questions yet and
would like to, please see this post and comment away!
Have a great
afternoon!
