Productivity // 3 Ways to Have a Productive Summer

Hey y’all!  According to Google, summer officially begins on Thursday.  OK, so I’ll give it that.  I trust Google on that one.  But obviously the state in which I live does not agree.  It rebelliously began sporting temperatures in the 90s several weeks ago, and that’s just the beginning.  Oh, the joys of living down south! ;)

For most of y’all, summer means school break, fireworks, cookouts, swimming, traveling, evenings on the porch, and trying to figure out how to dress modestly without sweltering (post coming soon on that topic).  Summer just seems to give off an air of blissful laziness.  I can just hear Puma and Timone singing Hakuna Matata.

I’m going to assume at this point that no one is following.  So let’s move on then, shall we? :)

Here are 3 ways to beat summer boredom and laziness, get moving + serving, and be productive these next couple months!

1 --- Invest in your siblings.  It’s the best time of year for excuses to get ice cream sibling dates!  Of course, ice cream is a fantastic option.  Always. :)  But really, you can do many things with your siblings.  Early one morning this past week, before the temperature rose for the day, I went hiking with one of my older brothers.  We had a blast!  Sweaty selfies were taken, miles were walked, and discoveries were made (such as, I am actually a rather clumsy person!  It’s a good thing we turned around when we did… I probably would have fallen off the side of the mountain and killed myself!).

This summer, pay special attention to your siblings.  Spend lots of time with them!  You are stuck with them for life, whether or not you like it.  So choose to embrace your sibling relationships!  Friends come and go, but siblings are siblings for life!

2 --- Spend time with God.  Prioritize your time with the Lord.  Dig into the Bible, talk with Him constantly in prayer, and hide His Word in your heart.  This summer, pursue Christ!

3 --- Get involved with ministry.  Even if your church/community has limited ministry outreaches, there are still many ways you can get involved with ministry this summer!  Here are just a couple:

Throw a shower for a new wife/mom.
Bake cookies for your neighbor.
Send encouraging cards to friends + family.
Put together a goody-bag for a friend who just moved.
Help out with a VBS.
Mentor a younger girl.
Get a small group together and go on an encouragement “mission” trip (visit missionary friends, a pastor of a small church, etc.)

  1. Those are some good ideas! I love going on sibling dates. I am going to try to read as many books as I can this summer before going away to college since I won't be able to read as much with all that studying. And I want to spend more time with family, spend a lot more time with Jesus and memorize more Bible verses. VBS is always a lot of fun to help out with. :)

    Love,

  2. This was such a fun post, Grace! Thanks for these awesome ideas :) One thing on my summer bucket list with Kenzie is to ride in a hot air balloon xD Next week we are going to an outdoor festival and they have one so we shall see if this terrified-of-heights-girl follows through or not.... XD

    1. Thanks, Grace! I was super thrilled to have new blog photos done because I've been needing new ones for a while. ;) My sister did a fantastic job with these and I couldn't have been happier! I have a whole boatload of shots -- I'd hoping to share more of them soon, maybe in a Currently post or something.
I've been praying for y'all this past week. You have a very positive attitude to consider life "full and blessed" at this point -- way to go! Hope you are doing well! <3

    2. Ooh, oh yes, post more pictures!!!!! Tell your sister she did an awesome job! I especially loved the third and fourth pictures on your about page, but I loved all of the ones I've seen.
Thank you very much for your prayers. They are appreciated. God has been good to us, although it's hard to see sometimes. :')

    3. I will definitely tell her that! Ah good, I'm glad you liked the fourth photo. I debated adding it and wasn't sure I liked it at first, but I think I'll keep it. ;)
